Babyland General Hospital - Memories Relived

Today was a great day for all of us, as Brandon was able to take the day off from work, after having been traveling throughout the month of March for work. We were fortunate enough to sleep in a little this morning, and soak up the beautiful weather this afternoon as we made our way to Babyland, home of the Cabbage Patch Kids General Hospital in Cleveland, Georgia.

Last night as we were having trouble coming up with ideas of things to do, Brandon did a little research online and found some attractions in and around the Atlanta area. He stumbled upon a website that listed 50 fun things to do in Atlanta, and while scrounging around for a bit he came upon a link to the Babyland General Hospital. Overjoyed at his discovery, he went to find Katie to tell her where they would all be going the next day. Katie's eyes sparkled and gleamed, as a big smile swiped across her face. This experience certainly brought back lots of memories for Katie, as her parents took her to Babyland when she was six years old, only to discover that the hospital was closed that day. Peering into every window, anxiously hoping to set her little eyes upon the chubby-cheeked cherub-sized dolls, that little girl went away sad and waved goodbye not knowing when she would get that chance again.

Finally, after more than 20 years Katie was able to return to that place of every little girl's dream, and walk through the threshold of Babyland General Hospital, now as a grown woman, wife and mother. Surely, I think we can say God knows how to take our little moments of sadness (no matter how old we are) and convert them into joyous monuments for us to treasure forever in our hearts. This was truly one of those moments. I figure this is just His way of saying, "I've been thinking of you."

While at the "hospital" we were able to witness a Cabbage Patch delivery. Toward the back of the hospital there is a magical tree where the Cabbage Patch babies are "incubated" - for lack of a better term - and awaiting their birth. A nurse comes around and conducts the delivery, and in moments a Cabbage Patch baby emerges onto the scene. As the nurse wrapped the baby-doll she asked the little girls in front what they wanted to name the newborn girl. One girl shouted "Sophie!" while another erupted seconds later, "Sunshine!" So, with the consensus being unanimous, the newborn Cabbage Patch baby was named Sophie Sunshine. It was a very cute and sweet demonstration. Brandon took footage of this event, which you will be able to checkout soon on Facebook, as he needs to upload it from his phone.

To hold you over, here are some pictures Brandon took of Gianna and Olivia after touring around the hospital. Unfortunately, if you want to see some pictures from inside the hospital, you will need to checkout Brandon Facebook profile as well.

One of the many splendid views from Babyland.
