Here is the little "Chunka Munka's" face. Here the baby is looking at us. If you tilt your head to the left, you can make out the eyes (closed), little nose, and mouth (lips slightly open). The sonographer wasn't able to get any real good pictures. It was so cute to see the baby's face, and even at one point he/she stuck its tongue out at us. What a stubborn little booger!
Here you can see the baby's hand balled into a little fist. You can count four fingers and the thumb is hidden in there (not quite visible). We hope you enjoy looking at these pictures as much as it was a joy for us seeing our baby move on the screen in front of us in real-time. Furthermore, we ask that you please keep mom and baby in your prayers, as we received the unfortunate news that the baby is currently in breech position, and there is a slight possibility that Katie may need to undergo a C-section if the baby does not shift soon. The doctor suggested to us that she could attempt to perform a "version," in which she and another physician will attempt to shift the baby externally, but the chances of success for that procedure range generally from 40-60%. With this procedure there is also a chance that with the force of the motions it could cause infant distress and possibly even early labor, which could result in an emergency C-section. If Katie decides to not undergo this procedure, she could wait it out until the due date - so long as the doctor declares it safe - and hope that the baby could shift, though by that time the baby could be too large and would most likely settle in its place. Until then we will be trying all sorts of stretching and exercising techniques that could help shift the baby into position.
We ask for your prayers and we commend our little one into the loving protection of Our Lady, St. Gerard, St. Anthony, and St. Gianna - ora pro nobis!
Peace and love to you all.
